human hole first gig was going to be interesting, the plan to improvise. stressful having to hotspot from Alex' phone to get to the saved reels on instagram working. practice before the gig with the akai riff-o-matic even touched on some noisey drum and bass. Alex' set up for the show was less / no vocals, more noise, but through(from?) the moog which makes drones, chords, melodies ish somehow, rhythms, harsh sounds. we sat in front of each others amps. was like a phone call with horrible reception. Max's drumming a reminder time is continous.
due to some crossover of each of us trying to wind the set down, we went into an extra section but the casio was raging. a piercing distorted lead sound that its never made before.
spiral map comes from a list of the top 1000 movies of all time. Paul had a 9 string guitar with only 8 strings. And the other guy was playing through a tiny roland cube which sounded shockingly cool. over dinner forced to come up with the desciptor: hypno-pop. slow, reverb-heavy songs with something in each to hold its own. circular bass line. vocal line. extra mettalic sounding guitar.
torn on making comparisons. elctrified acoustic 8 string, electric 6 string fender jaguar, electric p-bass, drums with tea towel, slow, dreamy, groovey, dean blunt-ish, slacker mazzy star-ish, the kind of music to close your eyes, nod, and sway a bit.

the boss tu-3 tuner was set to half step down mode #2. this shows you the right note but it wil be flat. user error / design flaw / both. given enough time it's hard to say what wouldve happened. it has been nearly one month of underlying confusion and dark mystery.

james couldnt un-rock-ify the marshall combo, tiesco pickups + amp, too hot (sounded good though). lifegirl set felt very assured, all the depth and range but with more solidity?, which didnt take away from the composite liquid hypnosis effect lifegirl has. this set could sway opininons on practicing same day as the gig. some slightly overzealous/tipsy mixing did not outweigh the memorable moments. filter sweeps, reverbs, delays, dub-isms. theramin, vocals, snare maybe even every channel got attention. tweezing designation between their lighter more defined textural parts, and thicker dirtier collective drone, hypno-melodic guitar riffs, casual chic vocals. ♡ ‧₊˚ ⋅ ౨ৎ ‧₊ .ᐟ
linen soundchecked. and played two new songs!, a moog sequence erroneously spiralling around before settling into something that was fresh & groovey but within bounds. Like how Eno has another green world. but with dirty syrupy slowcore arpegios and looping bass lines. a departure to the fridges of the expected dirty threepiece' output. a couple of proper shoegaze moments. #blessed to have watched linen a few times since mixing them at the redhill and maybe a new benchmark has been set. standing half in front of the pa, needs to be shared that Kris mixed up a storm. Jax calling it the drummers mix. pa in the left ear and stage sound in the right ear could be the new go-to listening position at spit. weird out west: a lax / sub-par account
local highschool band plays the velvet underground was as good as expected, lots of exciting things heard about whats coming (ep, more gigs, can (band) next, noise project, O not pilgramig-ing to empty temples in japan)
OV pain sounded cool. took a while to get my head into it - personally. what was a swirling tone soup indoors, was harder to hold your attention in the open air. maybe just not loud enough. things started happening and heads were bobbing arounf like the simpson lulapaloza bit.
noise guitar duo sounded great from the seat outside of the record store, which N & i were cemented in at the time
stuff: DJ's, rap, dance, all very hard to care about after ~4 hours of hanging around. not my cup of tea generally. but nothing quite like one act that brought out really hateful emotions. something to unpack. maybe a sign to go home nxt time
the Vasco Era guitarist wore no shoes, which i think is fine. - but - something about the way he curled his toes to press the pedals with such a level of care and dexterity - got to me.

The Quirks of a Very Old Laptop
Volume 1: uBlock Origin
I had a minor freak out today because uBlock Origin stopped working on youtube videos.
Now, a lot of people will tell you that uBlock Origin stopped working ages ago. I’m sure that’s true for most people, but most people are not still using Chrome on a 2012 MacBook Pro that runs Catalina.
I promise that uBlock Origin was still working for me without a hitch until maybe a month ago. Then it started intermittently letting some ads in, but, resetting the uBlock extension made it work just fine again
Yesterday, on youtube, I saw some ads. I reset the extension, but I was still seeing them. I saw an ad for booking.com featuring The Muppets. I never thought I could be angry at Miss Piggy, but I was, just a little bit.
I thought “well, I guess it’s finally time for a new laptop” but then I thought “surely some legend is making a youtube ad blocker that can be used with my ancient OS”
Would you believe it but it turns out that legend is…uBlock origin, but only if your browser is Mozilla Firefox. I had no idea Firefox still existed, like, I had to re-read the reddit post where I found this information a couple of times before I remembered what the hell Firefox even is.
So now on my newly installed Firefox browser with uBlock extension I’m gonna go watch some brain rot. Ciao Ciao
